Setter Closet Team

Kilter is not a “normal” climbing grip company. Because this industry is so young there has never been a company started by people who have so much experience. We are a bit obsessed and have the years to prove it. We know climbing gyms, climbing grips, and what professional route setters demand.

Kilter's first sets were released in 2013 and now the line is one of the largest in the industry. Kilter has won the Climbing Business Journal Grips List 4 times: we took first in the inaugural list in 2014, then won again in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In 2018 we also won All Time Favorite Brand.

The Kilter line was designed by Ian Powell, a veteran shaper and fine artist with decades of climbing, setting, and shaping experience. Ian has shaped thousands of grips for some of the biggest companies in the game and is widely regarded to be one of the best shapers in the world. If you have climbed in a gym, most likely you have already enjoyed his designs. Since his return to the climbing industry in 2013 he has continued to push new ideas and has built one of the largest hold lines in the world in a few short years with Kilter.

Kilter’s marketing, publicity, and sales are guided by Jackie Hueftle, nationally-certified level 4 setter with over 20 years of experience. Jackie is the Director of Setting Education at The Spot, has set major pro events and multiple junior nationals, contributes writing to national magazines, commentates on World Cup Bouldering events in collaboration with Chalk Talk, and has traveled to climb across North America and Europe. She learned to boulder in Bishop, is a guide in Hueco, loves sport climbing at Smith, and has sent V-double digits and put up new problems on a variety of rock types. Reach Jackie at

The Setter Closet Team is made up of professional routesetters who are here to help you get the holds you need when and where you need them. Our team, working in conjunction with the Routesetting Institute, can help you budget and select holds for any size of project, and with our line of over 3000 shapes and growing, we have plenty of grips to choose from.

We are proud to have Griffin Whiteside on the team. Griff is a trained accountant, long time route setter, and one of the strongest underground boulderers in the world. When he's not at Kilter he's either fitting all the biggest features on the curviest walls at Earth Treks Golden or seeking out and sending boulder problems all over Colorado. Griff helps with pretty much everything and has saved us more times than we can count. He's available for all questions, accounting or otherwise, and can be reached at

Setter Closet has an extra asset in business development consultant Scott Rennak, veteran comp organizer, route setter, screw-on pioneer behind the award-winning Crater Holds, and original founder of the American Bouldering Series. These days he's working with The Spot on their second location in Denver.

After 2.5 years at that facility and 8 months living in his van, climbing in Squamish, Kaleb became the Head Route-Setter at Climb Base5, a growing facility just outside of Vancouver in Coquitlam B.C. He has since gone on to consult, set, and teach all over Canada. Kaleb travels often and has set over 30 competitions and worked with almost 20 different climbing gyms in North America. In 2016 he became the first Canadian setter to set an International Lead World Cup event. Reach him at

About Our Material

Our grips are not poured from buckets in someone’s garage. Instead they are produced by some of the foremost climbing hold factories in the world. Kilter and Urban Plastix US and Kilter and Urban Plastix Europe are unique sets of holds made to go together stylistically, so you can set by combining Kilter US and Kilter Europe holds or Urban Plastix US with Urban Plastix Europe and have lines that look and feel right together.

US - Kilter and Urban Plastix US are produced by Aragon Elastomers in Louisville, Colorado. They have been producing grips for many popular climbing grip brands since 2006, utilizing the most modern manufacturing techniques in the industry.

Ian originally began working with Aragon to develop material for e-Grips in the 90s and now, almost 20 years later, we pour Kilter at Aragon because we believe it is hands down the best material for climbing holds. No other material combines feel, flexibility, and longevity the way that Aragon's mix does.

Every Kilter and Urban Plastix US grip comes with a 5 year manufacturer warranty from Aragon. If they break in that time, we will replace them. But they won’t.

Europe - Kilter and Urban Plastix Europe are poured in Bulgaria at Composite-X. They are made of the proprietory Dannomond material which is a super strong and light polyurethane developed by chemist (and Comp-X owner) Daniel French. Dannomond is his best mix after years of development, and so far it has performed extremely well in testing. We are confident that Kilter and Urban Plastix Europe holds in Dannomond will deliver our customers the quality and longevity they expect.
