Youth Boulder QE at The Campus: Community First, Competition Second
The Youth Boulder Qualifying Event at The Campus Climbing and Training was one of those rare competitions that reminds everyone why youth climbing is so powerful. Hosted on December 13, 2026, this first-time QE at The Campus brought together athletes from U-11 through U-20, plus collegiate climbers, for a day that was equal parts high-level competition and genuine community building.
What immediately set this event apart was its no-parent, no-spectator format. While some athletes were hesitant at first, the result was something truly special. Older competitors naturally stepped into mentorship roles, cheering on and supporting younger athletes throughout the day. Coaches from different teams showed up fully for everyone, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and shared stoke that rippled through the gym. Since the event, athletes from different teams and age categories have continued interacting and supporting one another — a clear sign of the impact this format had.
From a setting perspective, the challenge was real: 32 climbs total to serve U-11 through U-20 and collegiate categories. The rotational redpoint format ensured that every athlete had something meaningful to work on, regardless of age or experience. The setting was thoughtful, engaging, and inclusive — demanding without being discouraging, and creative enough to keep athletes psyched all day long.
Setter Closet was proud to support this event by providing a route setter for the week (Brendan) along with holds on loan, helping make the vision for the competition possible. The feedback from the community said it all: “The best QE of the season, the most interesting setting, and the best vibes during the event.” For a first-time QE host, The Campus set a high bar — and did so with gratitude, intention, and heart.
We’re grateful to be part of events like this that prioritize athletes, setters, and community above all else. If this QE is any indication, the future of youth climbing is in very good hands.
